Projects  | STRIVE Birdhouses

Small

Each birdhouse was designed specifically for their sponsor. Some sponsor gave specific direction and other let the student have creative control.

Hudson Daybreak Rotary, through the leadership of Patrick Ward, worked with the STRIVE students at Hudson High School to create a really unique fundraiser for the second year in a row. Birdhouses are built and designed around community sponsors and then travel on display to help generate additional funds on top of the sponsorship revenue. The birdhouses were on display at the Phipps Center for the Arts atrium and Hudson Hospital & Clinics. After being displayed, each birdhouse was given to their sponsor. The project has raised more than $5,000 from sponsors alone.

All the proceeds will be donated by the high school to ShelterBox. Disasters keep happening and ShelterBox continues to provide temporary shelter, tools, blankets, cold weather gear, cooking stoves and many other important items to those suffering catastrophic loss of homes, loved ones and livelihood.

This has been an excellent project for these students. The STRIVE teachers used it as a teaching opportunity to enhance the students' social skills and teamwork through the give-and-take of formulating their own ideas into action.  The students were so eager to work on the birdhouses that the teachers also used it as an incentive to get their class work and homework done before they could work on the houses.

Look for the birdhouses on display in the Hudson community!
